Vacation!

Posted by Dayna

It’s so nice to FINALLY have a job and a sweet one at that!  The people I work with are really cool and a lot are my age too.  Every Friday at 4:30, our company supplies beer and wine for free(!) and we all get to chill out after the work week.  Seriously? Best.Idea.Ever.
I never used to drink wine, but I’m starting to like it…a lot…especially when it’s free.

Matt and I fly to Christchurch tomorrow for an extended (as in 6-day) long weekend!  We’ve managed to pack a lot into the few days we’re there and we’ve rented a car to ease the process.  I get to do ALL the driving too, since SOMEONE doesn’t have his licence…
It’s ok, I love driving, but I am a little nervous about doing it on the other side of the road.

Anyway, we’ll spend a night at hanmer hot springs and stay at a really nice hotel.  Then I get to meet Matt’s dad for the first time and we’ll all go to Wanaka, Queenstown, and a bunch of other places.  I’ve never been to the South Island, or a hot spring, AND I get to go on an airplane….so I’m pretty excited!

As we were packing tonight, Matt took out a folder with all the tickets/confirmations/directions/information in the order of which we will need it.  I love him.

Lacking

Posted by Dayna

This is the first time I’ve logged into my site, let alone written anything, in the last couple weeks.  I won’t start apologizing for the lack posts because I enjoyed the break.

I needed the break.

There’s been lots of things I could write about…the annoyances joys of living with a boy, life in New Zealand, the amazing weather, and my new job…but I’ve been uninspired and uninterested in writing.
I’m not giving up at all, but I need something to motivate me.  I’m searching.

I started my new job yesterday!  I work for a Consulting firm as an administrator for a handful of NZ superannuation schemes.  It’s only a 6 month contract because of my visa, but hopefully it’ll be extended.  Even if it isn’t, at least I’ll have experience working in NZ and getting another job won’t be as hard (hopefully).  I’ve only been there a couple days, but it’s already pretty interesting and there’s lots of more things to learn.

Matt and I went on a bush walk with his mom this weekend.  There’s pics up on Flickr and Facebook but I’ll leave you with my favourite.

Happy!

Sick

Posted by Dayna

Not the good sick, where you just have a couple sniffles and use that to justify staying in bed all day, but the the bad sick where I feel like I’ve been hit by a bus.  My head feels full, nose is stuffed, throat is sore, and my muscles are in pain.

Even though it would’ve been a really good idea to stay in bed all day yesterday, I didn’t.  I don’t yet have a job and can’t stand being home alone all.day.long.  So, I went for a walk along the waterfront:

There’s a lot of *ahem* interesting artwork along the Wellington waterfront.  One of my favourites is the Writers’ Walk.  It features a bunch of quotes/writing from various authors usually about Wellington.  There’s 19 pieces of work in total, but I only found 4 this time.  You can never find something when you’re looking for it.

There are a few more pictures on my flickr site, which you can also find on my sidebar.  I hope to eventually photograph each one, but it may take a little while.
